Fremont High School Celebrates Winter Season Success and Coaching Excellence

FREMONT HIGH SCHOOL, Sunnyvale — Fremont High School’s winter athletics season proved to be one of remarkable achievement, leadership, and character, as multiple programs earned top honors in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League (SCVAL).

Highlighting the season were three prestigious SCVAL Coach of the Year recognitions, awarded to Varsity Girls Basketball Coach Miguel Castillo, Wrestling Coach Erik Duus, and Girls Soccer Head Coach Adam Clarke—a testament to the strength of Fremont’s athletic programs and the dedication of its coaching staff.

Leadership That Inspires

Under the guidance of Coach Miguel Castillo, the varsity girls basketball program continued to grow and compete at a high level. His commitment to player development, teamwork, and accountability has helped shape a program built on both skill and character.

In wrestling, Coach Erik Duus once again demonstrated why he is one of the most respected coaches in the area. Known for his technical expertise and ability to motivate student-athletes, Duus has cultivated a culture of discipline and resilience that continues to produce success on the mat.

On the pitch, Coach Adam Clarke led the Fremont girls soccer program to an outstanding season, earning him SCVAL Coach of the Year honors. Clarke’s leadership emphasized not only competitive excellence but also unity, trust, and a team-first mentality that defined the Firebirds throughout the winter season.

A Championship Culture of Character

In addition to Clarke’s individual recognition, the Varsity Girls Soccer team earned one of the most meaningful honors of the season: SCVAL Sportsmanship Team of the Year.

This award reflects the team’s unwavering commitment to respect, integrity, and positive competition. Throughout the winter season, Fremont’s players consistently demonstrated what it means to represent their school with class—supporting one another, respecting opponents and officials, and playing the game the right way.

A Season to Remember

Competing in the highly competitive SCVAL, Fremont’s winter teams rose to the occasion, showcasing not only talent but also the values that define Firebird athletics. These honors reflect a broader culture of excellence—one where coaches and athletes work together to achieve success while maintaining the highest standards of sportsmanship.

As Fremont High School continues to build on this momentum, the accomplishments of the winter season stand as a powerful reminder: success is measured not only in wins, but in leadership, character, and the lasting impact of a strong team culture.

Congratulations to Coaches Castillo, Duus, and Clarke, and to the Fremont Girls Soccer team, on an outstanding winter season!
