Strength and Conditioning Head Coach Christian Batiste
Christian is originally from Hayward, California, and a proud graduate of San Lorenzo High School. After high school, he attended Chabot College in Hayward, where he competed in both football and baseball before transferring to Western Oregon University. There, he continued his football career and earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, along with an Associate Degree in Math and Science.
Following his collegiate career, Christian began personal training, where he discovered a passion for Olympic weightlifting—both as a competitor and a coach. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he earned his USA Weightlifting Level 1 Coaching Certification, further expanding his expertise in strength development and performance training.
Christian went on to work with Stanford Sports Nutrition and completed internships with Stanford Sports Performance, gaining valuable experience training high-level collegiate athletes. Drawing from that background, he now specializes in developing youth athletes, helping them build strength, confidence, and a foundation for long-term athletic success.

1:30 – 2:30 PM Foundations of Strength & Conditioning ▸
Foundations is where every Firebird athlete builds the base that everything else stands on. This class focuses on the fundamentals of athletic strength — squatting, hinging, pushing, pulling, and bracing — alongside speed development and conditioning that build acceleration, change of direction, work capacity, mobility, and durability across every sport. Coaches teach proper movement and technique first, then progressively add load, speed, and intensity, so newcomers learn to train safely while experienced athletes sharpen their form and get faster and stronger. Whether you're stepping into the weight room for the first time or coming back for another season, this class meets you where you are and pushes you forward.
2:30 – 4:00 PM Olympic Weightlifting ▸
This class introduces athletes to the snatch and the clean & jerk — the two competition lifts that develop explosive power, speed, and full-body coordination like nothing else in the weight room. Athletes learn each lift through a progression of drills and positions before building toward heavier, more technical work, so the focus stays on doing it right before doing it heavy. These lifts carry over directly to the field, court, mat, and track: the same triple extension that drives a bar overhead is what powers a sprint start, a vertical jump, a takedown, and a hard cut, training the body to produce force fast and absorb it under control. All experience levels are welcome — coaches will scale the work to fit you.
Olympic Weightlifting may run a little long due to setup and putting away weights.
Not sure which to pick?
Foundations — if you're new to the weight room and haven't done much (or any) structured lifting. We'll build your movement and strength from the ground up.
Olympic Weightlifting — if you want to get more explosive and sport-specific, and you already have some experience with the bench, squat, and deadlift.
Still unsure? Start with Foundations — the coaches can help you land in the right spot.
